what I’m reading

I just finished Kim Harrison’s sixth book of The Hallows, and while I’m caught up with the series (the seventh comes out in two weeks), I might go into withdrawal since I’d been reading them one after another recently.  I like the series so much I’m actually having a hard time going back to my own writing right after with pretending I’m having an out-of-body experience.

In other news, I worked on several important scenes from future books in the current series, but I still don’t actually know the number of books in the series.  The scenes are entirely based on a couple songs, and anytime I’ve revisited the scenes in recent months, I had to listen to those songs.  It never happens like that with current writing, only future scenes.  A number of authors have said that they are inspired by music, as opposed to just having music play while you write.  I wish they’d elaborate on how, I love hearing stuff like that.

A question on my mind is whether YA dark fantasy or Middle-Grade dark fantasy (and splitting my manuscript into two) is the best way to go.  I wish I knew which one has better appeal among readers, and which audience is having more fun with the read.
