I took a long walk during lunchtime today. I went into the office today and aside from the haze in the air along with the faint smell of wood smoke, it was a nice day for walking. I think I’m the only person who thinks that in Philly right now, as I’m seeing lots of masks out today. There are currently hundreds of forest fires burning out of control northeast of here in Nova Scotia, Canada. There are also many burning much closer in New Jersey. It’s easy now for me to see how my mind chose to escape during today’s walk. The reality is that I have a real concern for all those who have been evacuated from their homes, those fighting the fires, and those who will have difficulty breathing because of the air quality for thousands of miles downwind. Where my mind went today was in the much more protective place of an uplifting scene in a school which specializes in lucid dreaming.
The protagonist of the moment is a senior agonizing of their future who has recently passed their fire department certification and hasn’t told anybody because it will mean commitment to that line of work.
The class finds out when our hero is deputized by a visiting police officer who informs the class and instructor that the local fire department has largely vacated the area to help a neighboring country with wild fires in their time of need. The local deputies will perform the local fire department’s duties and are on call until further notice. As the realization of the message sets in, the class are silent in admiration of their friend and colleague.
This is a difficult moment for us as we were not planning on letting people know like this yet we cannot ever show reticence. It’s not like we ever needed it before. We never needed a license to be us.
Did you ever need a license to do a call…
follow a call…
call a doing…
follow your do…
make a calling…
listen to your doing…
make your following…
call your doing…
do your calling…
follow your calling…
